Ahhhhh, what a good feeling!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of paddling with legendary fitness trainer, and more importantly, my friend, Vinnie Tortorich. Vinnie was in his handmade kayak that he built with Joey Schott of Turning Point Boatworks. Vinnie’s kayak is absolutely amazing. I’ve dubbed it, “The Stradivarius of Kayaks,” because it is.
Joey is my manufacturing partner for West Side Boat Shop Kayaks. Joey is a master boat builder so I enlisted the very best to help keep the legacy of West Side Boat Shop kayaks alive and well.
(Vinnie also makes a reasonably good cameraman.)
We did what I would call “slow but steady” cardio in our kayaks yesterday for more than a couple hours which saw us cover 10.5 miles.
I paddled my West Side Boat Shop Wave Excel kayak and I smile every time I get in any West Side Boat Shop kayak. I just can’t help it.
Other than hiking in the great outdoors or riding a bicycle, I refuse to do cardio in a gym under most circumstances, so kayaking is my go-to cardio exercise. It is in its own right a resistance exercise, and now that I am closer to 60 than I am to 50, I appreciate low-impact cardio more than ever to stay active and avoid injury.
Today I hit the gym to do weight-bearing exercises to hit my legs, lats, arms and shoulders.
If you don’t use it you lose it, so I am still very active in the gym.
After the gym I popped over to Waynesboro, VA to grab a West Side Boat Shop Seafarer K1 kayak, whose sale I helped facilitate in the Classified section of my website, exclusively for West Side Boat Shop kayaks. I was happy to match this seller with a buyer who I know will appreciate and cherish this wonderful WSBS kayak. Tomorrow it will be on a trailer heading to its new home in Maine.
Please consider kayaking as your chosen sport well into your later years. I believe it is the very best exercise to keep you healthy and happy for the long-term.
